Colts slump to first defeat of the season
This was always going to be a tough game but the big decisions and moments went Edenbridges way today.
From the first whistle Edenbridge were clearly up for it and took the lead after a cross from the right and a neat finish 1-0 (15). But while the home fans were still celebrating, Remy floated a free kick over the defence for James to control and set up Jack to score his first goal of the season. 1-1 (16).
The Colts then had their best spell of the game without really threatening the Edenbridge defence. Rhys was the busier of the two keepers today and made some fine saves. Just as half time was approaching Edenbridge easily took the lead again, from a corner, as no one challenged for the ball. 2-1 (35).
The Colts made a promising start to the second half and then came the defining minute of the game. Stuart Lee dribbled into the box and was brought to the ground when sandwiched by two Edenbridge players; it was the clearest of clear penalties. “NO PENALTY, PLAY ON” shouted the referee as the ball was cleared up the field to the Edenbridge forwards. Two passes later it was in the net. 3-1 (40). Hard done by?, we thought so.
Now the boys started to play JJ, Remy and James were all putting the tackles in as we showed a bit of fighting spirit. Moments later we did get a penalty after a mazy run by James ended up with a miss timed tackle. Not as clear-cut as the first shout for I must say. Remy stood tall and did his best to bring the Colts back into the game but the keeper won that dual.
The flattering score line was then extended after another unchallenged header from a corner. 4-1 (55) and game over.
MOM nominations went to Ben, Scott, David, Nathan, Rhys but James was the winner.
