Surrey Cup R2:  Selsdon 4 v Colts 1

Spirited cup display ends in defeat

Following last weeks disappointing performance and result we wanted to see a much-improved display today and that’s what we got.

The Colts started the brighter of the two teams today and were unlucky to go behind after a scrappy goalmouth mêlée 1-0. (8). This gave Selsdon a lift and Rhys was twice called into action, coming off his line quickly to save us. Our best chance of the half fell to James with a cracking left foot volley towards the top corner.

Richard coming back from injury was inspirational and he had a strong midfield around him, Jack, Scott and JJ. But the stars of the show were Ollie and Remy today. They were very strong at the back clearing most of Selsdon pressure with ease.a great double act.

Selsdon started the stronger in the second half and quickly doubled their lead after a long ball chase and run effort from the forward. 2-0. (37). Eight minutes later the same thing happened again. 3-0 (45) and a superb individual goal made it 4-0 (50). A slow start to the half cost us the game, although 4-1 was flattering.

Lesser teams would have folded even further at this point but when James buried Nathan’s through ball to make it 4-1 (54) we were back in the game. Two minutes later James had a similar chance to make the last ten minutes very interesting, but it went wide. Selsdon held firm despite an effort from Nathan following the pass of the match from JJ on 65 minutes.

At least we can concentrate on the league and promotion now!!!

.

5.11.06 Key learning point: WE PLAYED A VERY GOOD TEAM TODAY, THEY PASSED AND MOVED AND WORKED HARD FOR EACH OTHER-REMEMBER THAT!

M.O.M nominations included Ben, James, Nathan, Richard, Scott, but Remy just pipped Ollie.
