League:  Colts 4 v Tunbridge 1

Colts cut down Forrester’s & stay top

Today will be remembered for a great win and the return from injury of Richard and it looked like he had never been away. Tunbridge started the stronger of the teams they were first to the ball, winning the tackles and causing problems going forward too. But the Colts held firm and defended well as they did all game.

After 15 minutes we began to get into the game having weathered the pressure and scored at our first attempt. Scott came in from right midfield with the ball, his first shot was saved and Stuart was on hand to tap it in. 1-0 (15). Tunbridge came back at us and Rhys was called into action on several occasions. Playing like an away team in Europe the Colts doubled their lead with another breakaway goal. This time it was Stuart down the left with a cross and Scott cutting in from the right who bundled the ball over the line. 2-0 (22). Richard, having marked his return with some great tackles and passes was changed after 30 minutes to a great round of applause from the crowd.

Tunbridge gave themselves a lifeline when a through ball split the defence and the forward scored after Rhys saved the first effort. 2-1 (32) . HALF TIME and time to regroup and talk to the lads.

The half time team talk was all about competing for the ball much quicker and stronger, which would tip the game our way. Full credit to all the boys, they all listened !

Ollie, Ben and Remy stopped any threat of a Tunbridge goal and restricted the visitors to one speculative shot in the whole of the 2nd half, although it did hit the crossbar !

James, Nathan and Stuart began to impose themselves as the Colts went positively in search of a third goal to kill the game off. Nathan soon collected the ball on the half way line, controlled it and tuned in one move and then fed Stuart with a perfectly weighted ball. Stuart beat the keeper one on one to make it 3-1 (49).

Tunbridge heads were dropping having given their best for about an hour and following a corner, JJ played it wide to Nathan, who crossed for Stuart to complete his hat-trick at the second attempt and send Tunbridge home pointless ! 4-1 (50) and game over. The Colts then just ran down the clock and controlled play for 20 minutes.

15.10.06 Key learning point: When we tackled quicker and stronger we controlled the ball because we had possession of the ball.

M.O.M nominations included Remy, Ollie, Stuart and Scott but Ben wins his first award for the Colts.
