Captain Fantastic inspires perfect performance.
Once again the whole squad was tested to its limits this week, with the withdrawal of four players due to sickness and injury. Those that remained however did the club proud with one of the best performances so far this season.
Remy won the toss and turned the teams around, playing up the slight slope in the first half, a half that was only 4 minutes old when Scott made the first telling pass forward into the path of Nathan. His touch was good setting himself up for a shot that flew in. 1 nil and we were on our way. JJ, Jack O and Scott were all great in midfield today competing and battling for everything, then having won the ball, showed Waterloo how to play football.
Rhys was a spectator today due to the excellent display from George, Ollie and in particular David in defence toady. All three showed touches of brilliance at times and it was a tackle from Ollie and a long clearance that found Nathan on the half way line. His control and turn in one movement gave him the time and space to find James with a through ball. James’ finish was clinical. 2 nil and 27 minutes played. Awesome.
The half time team talk was only needed to remind the boys that we got to 2 nil last time and this time we wanted them to go on and win the game.
The third goal and probably the most important one because the points were won, was the best goal of the game. Following a rare attack from Waterloo Remy was on hand to break things up. Remy rightly won the Man of the Match due to a faultless performance today. He controlled the defence verbally, read the game well anticipating any danger and also played some football such was his confidence today. He won the tackle and moved forward making a great pass straight to Stuart’s feet. Stuart flicked the ball up and over the four defenders where he could see James’s run down the left. James collected the ball on the run moved into the box and buried the ball in the far corner with the keeper rooted to the spot. 3 nil and 41 minutes played.
The Colts football was now unstoppable with every playing wanting to be on the ball. Stuart made another run into the box only to be tackled, “penalty” was the shout “play on” the ref replied…so we did… as the ball fell lose James was quickest to react with a cross past the keeper with Scott sprinting to smash it over the line from a yard out. 4 nil after 46 minutes. Absolutely brilliant boys.
The Colts then ran the clock down, as Waterloo just had no answers to a great team performance.
MoM nominations were Ollie, Scott, Nathan, James and JJ but David’s best game of the season was only beaten by the faultless Remy today. Well done to both.
