Vintage Colts breeze past Oxted in style
After spending the midweek training session purely on passing to feet, looking up and passing to feet again, whilst creating options with good off the ball running, it was very pleasing to see the boys use it during the game. Well done for listening lads.
From the very first whistle the Colts were always going to win this game, it was just a case of how many; such was the positive start they made. Ben and Remy combined well down the left and after Scott’s shot was blocked James was on hand to smash it in with his right foot. 0-1 (11). Stuart playing in goal as third choice keeper today did very well coming off his line quickly and could always be heard shouting to his defence. He launched a wonderful kick up field for Jack to control and lob the high back line for James to chase onto. In the form of his life James had no hesitation in chipping the keep from 25 yards to make it 0-2 (15) but plenty more was to come.
The colts continued to push forward playing most of the game in the oppositions half but one long ball down the right and a good cross, got Oxted a goal, totally against the run of play. 1-2 (25). Back came the Colts deep into injury time. After four consecutive corners James found Scott who’s shot was blocked again but Jack was on hand to hit it high into the top corner with his left foot.1-3 (35) and a more realistic score line was achieved. HALF TIME.Keep your shape and keep moving the ball lads
In recent weeks we have started the second half slowly and conceded early goals, not this week though! A two-minute warm up kept the momentum going and it wasn’t long before the Colts hit top gear again. JJ playing central midfield today had played many great balls through to Nathan and James and one was going to split the defence at some point. Well it was this one, James then completed his third hat-trick in nine games and back-to-back hat-tricks too.1-4 (42). Everyone went to JJ for the assist.
Ollie, George and Nathan were playing as well as anyone today and made sure there were no weak links in our team today. The Colts were now creating chances at will as the game became more stretched. The best goal of the game came in the 55th minute. A hopeful ball forward was superbly read and cut out by Remy. He surged forward looking for a runner, he then played a fifty-yard pass out to the right wing straight to Leon’s feet. He beat the full back for speed and whipped in a delightful cross. Jack controlled it, beat two more players and slotted the ball into the bag of the net. It really was just like watching Scotland or possibly Brazil play! 1-5 (55).
Leon rounded off a good second half for himself with a neat goal after Scott’s third assist of the game. 1-6 (66). Then much to everyone’s surprise the ref gave Oxted a penalty after Bens great chase back and well timed tackle two minutes into injury time
19.11.06 Key learning point: PASSING THE BALL TO FEET AND CREATING SPACE WINS GAMES EVERY TIME….M.O.M nominations were for Scott, Leon, Remy and JJ but after an unbelievable first half Jack wins it this week.
