Different season, same old pass and move brilliant football though!!
This season started the same way as last year’s finished, with an emphatic 4-1 win over Edenbridge United. We had to wait over 4 months for a competitive game of football but we only had to wait 3 minutes for our first goal of the season.
Stuart Lee was alive and alert when the ball was played down the left channel. He got to the ball just before the keeper did and managed to stay on his feet well as the keeper clipped his heels. The hard work was done. He looked up and squared the ball nicely to Nathan who had kept up with him, to tap the ball over the line. .
Playing 4-4-2 today we competed well in the centre of the park with Jack O and Richard pulling all the strings. James left was covered by JJ behind him and Jack A-B right, was covered by George. Ollie and Remy made up the back 4 today. Edenbridge were well disciplined with at least 6 or 7 men behind the ball at all times and only 1 boy up front.
The Colts passed and moved the ball very well for the first 15 minutes and should have really extended their lead. When Edenbridge won a free kick on the half way line, there appeared to be no danger. The Colts defence moved up and their forwards latched on to a long “hoof” to beat Rhys in goal. 1-1. 20 minutes played.
David came on for Nathan at half time and James played alongside Stuart up front. Jack A-B had already been swapped for Michael. The crowd didn’t get a chance to settle back into their seats before James picked up Ollie’s sublime pass beat two defenders and smashed the ball into the roof of the net. 2-1. 31 minutes played.
Once again Edenbridge came back at us, but they found our keeper, Rhys, in inspired form today. Rhys made several important saves at a critical time of the game. He bravely threw himself in front of players and any attempted shot. He was not going to be beaten again. As Edenbridge began to take chances we began to have more room to play. Then on 43 minutes a moment of magic. The keeper threw the ball to the right back from the edge of the box, he was then immediately put under pressure from Stuart who won it easily, looked up and from 25 yards chipped the keeper delightfully. Maturity way beyond his years. 3-1.
Kick off was taken, Richard won the ball and fed David who passed it down the left for Stuart, still smiling, to run onto and cross it first time. James making his full debut was on hand to drill it neatly past the keeper. Job done we won 4-1. Everyone played well today.
MoM nominations were JJ, George, Rhys but Stuart won it.
