Surrey Cup Round 1

AC Lyne 4 v Colts 7 (aet)

The Greatest Show on Earth!

Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there was a beautiful …pitch! Which hosted the Greatest Show on Earth.

Lyne went 1 up when a corner wasn’t cleared well enough.(3) The Colts defended in numbers and very well for the first 6 minutes but our first adventure over the half way line led to a goal. Stuart chased down the ball and laid it on for Nathan, who won the tackle with the keeper and slotted it home.1-1. (7) and we were back in the game albeit against the run of play. But we took the chance and it was only the start…

The next 15 minutes was more even but when JJ fed Stuart with a through ball and Stuart fed Nathan again to make it 1-2 the crowd sensed there was more to come.(26). The game was opening up, as it became end to end. At half time George and Nathan were rested. David and Leon when added. James pushed up front.4-4-2 still. Confidence was rightly high at this point. Long way to go still!!!

AC Lyne then got back into the game when they won a corner immediately after James’s shot hit the woodwork at the other end. Another corner and another headed goal. 2-2. (40) The Colts responded with their best spell of the game to date. James and Stuart had 5 chances inside 5 minutes and couldn’t convert any of them to put the game beyond Lyne, was it going to be one of those games? ….nah !

Lyne took the lead again 3-2 (47) Another corner and another goal. 4-2 (53) this was very hard luck on Ben, Remy, Ollie and stand in keeper Frank who actually had been playing very well. Nathan was reintroduced as we immediately went 4-4-3 and started to chase the game. Jack and Scott were winning every 50-50 challenge to give us the chance of going for it. Every player today did there bit for “the team”

The Lyne keeper then allowed a speculative shot from James to squirm through his legs to make it 4-3 (64) We then swapped a defender for another midfielder and went in search of an equaliser. During second half injury time we needed something special from somewhere and we got something magical. James received the ball in the box, kept it, side stepped 2 defenders and with his right leg smashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner. The crowd were out of their seats, the newspapers were rewriting the back page headlines, the Lyne team had their heads in the hands and Rob ‘n Andy were as cool as you like! Full time. 4-4 after the first period of extra time as well

The goal of the game came 60 seconds into the last period. Stuart picked it up in midfield, ran down the left and delivered a wonderful cross in to box. Nathan was exactly where he should have been to volley it into the back of the net for his hat-trick..4-5. (81) Nathan then kept the ball in play and set up James to complete his hat-trick.4-6 (83) Stuart deserved his goal when he latched on to Jacks pass in the 93rd minutes to make it 4-7. Game over…what a show you provided for us today boys.
