League:  Oxted & District 2 v Colts 4

Goal of the season helps Colts win again

This game will be remembered for many things, were we playing or not, letting a two goal lead slip again, a very even game of passing football but most of all for those watching, being privileged to see one of the greatest goals ever scored.

Oxted made the stronger start. They were quicker to the ball and were moving the ball around very well. The Colts defended their goal well and the longer the game went on the more the Colts got back into it. Following a period of pressure Jacks shot fell nicely to Stuart, playing left midfield today, and he poked it home.0-1 (26) HT.

All three subs came on at half time, which gave us some fresh legs and it showed. We were now in charge of the game and bossing the ball much better. Ollie and Remy were awesome at the back once again. Jack and Scott had the midfield won and Stuart had lots of room down the left hand side. When Oxted’s keeper cleared a kick and it fell to Stuart on the half way line, no one imagined what was coming next…….

“ As I controlled the ball and ran forward no one came near me and it was sitting up nicely. I checked the keeper was off his line first and then just made sure I hit the ball cleanly and as hard as I could ” he was telling the reporters after the match. “ I was delighted it went in but I was more glad we won the match and picked up 2 more points to be honest. How refreshing! 0-2 (45) was a 7th win on the spin possible?

Oxted hit back with 2 goals on (50) and (55) both from through balls to unmarked players. Both finishes were of the highest calibre. 2-2 the game was in the balance. Rhys was called into action now and came sprinting of his line on more than one occasion to smother the ball quickly. It was end to end as both teams went for the win.

The best chance of a goal for the Colts today was going to come through Stuart or something he did. It was from his fine dribble down the left that Nathan was rewarded for his tireless running and unselfish play, as he was in the right place to tap the ball over the line. 2-3 (63) and once again we edged back in front having surrendered a two-goal lead. Stuart’s tired legs were rested to a standing ovation from the crowd.

Frank, George, JJ, James, Leon, David and Ben were all giving everything to defend this lead, their determination to win was clear for all to see. As Oxted pushed more boys forward to snatch a draw they left themselves exposed at the back and gave away more free kicks. As the final whistled approached and just before Remy took a free kick James was rested and Stuart thrown back on. The keeper appeared to have the ball easily but fumbled and who was quickest to react, Stuart of course to win the game, the

MoM trophy and the ball for completing his hat trick.2-4 (70). Brilliant.

3.12.06 Key learning point: WHEN WE ARE 2 GOALS AHEAD WE NEED TO SHUT UP SHOP AND STOP ALLOWING TEAMS BACK INTO THE GAME.

M.O.M nominations were for Rhys, Leon, Frank and Remy who all got 1 vote but Stuart walked away with it after 12 votes. This one was for you Eddy.XXX
