Shield Cup SF

Old Coulsdon Colts 1 v Wickham Wanderers 4

Colts cup run ends in disappointment

The Colts were beaten today but the score line was flattering. We huffed and puffed in defence and midfield today but never got into any rhythm long enough to make an impact. Jack and Scott did their best to compete and Remy lead the back four well, as we looked strong in defence today.

The first half was evenly contested with both midfields cancelling each other out and neither goalkeeper being troubled. Both teams were playing 4-4-2  and chances in front of goal were few and far between. 0-0 HALF TIME.

The first goal was always going to be important in a game this close and Wickham made the break through to take advantage. The cross from the right beat the offside trap and Rhys had no chance. 0-1 (40). The second goal and ultimately the killer goal came 3 minutes later as several players in the box stood watching instead of clearing the ball. 0-2 (43) and we needed to get hold of the ball and calm things down a bit.

Wickham’s purple patch, continued as Remy was pulled back before the forward finished neatly. 0-3 (47).  The fourth goal came after a through ball. 0-4 (53).

A loss of concentration over a 13-minute spell ended our cup dreams.

However the lads responded with our best spell of the game and we really took the game to Wickham to show them the league games won’t be so easy. Pressure mounted and several corners were being earnt. From one of these corners the ball was cleared way up the pitch. Georgie, standing just inside his own half, took a touch to set himself up and then smashed the ball towards the top left hand corner. It took a slight deflection and ended up in the top right hand corner! What a screamer and he celebrated his first ever 11-a-side goal with the biggest of smiles.

4.2.07 Key learning point: EVERY PLAYER MUST CONCENTRATE AND PERFORM FOR EVERY MINUTE.

M.O.M nominations came for Ollie, Jack, Remy and George but Scott for the second time in three matches won it. Well played Captain.
