League: Whyteleafe 2 v Colts 6

Colts come from behind to claim victory

On a very cold day the fans didn’t have to wait long before we could clap our hands to keep them warm!! The game was only 4 minutes old, when Stuart played James through, Whyteleafe’s keeper saved his first shot, but James was alert to the rebound. 0-1. We appeared to be on our way but the home side had other ideas. A free kick into our box was flicked over the defence and then flicked over Frank into the goal. 1-1. 11 minutes played. We should have got a head to the cross but didn’t.

Whyteleafe were now bossing the game and closing us down well. Another highball into the box missed our defenders attempts to clear it and was once again flicked over Frank’s head. 2-1 and 21 minutes on the clock.

We were playing 4-3-3 as usual today but the coaches decided to swap Nathan and Stuart back to their normal starting positions. Stuart centre and Nathan right. Jack Organ then immediately fed Nathan who raced in from the right and beat the keeper. 2-2 and after 25 minutes we were back in the game.

Nathan was now in full flow down the right and from one of his excellent crosses into the box the defender sliced a clearance past his own keeper to give the Colts the lead again. 2-3. 28 minutes played. Half time.

The Goal of the Game got the second half under way and set the Colts on the road to victory. Stuarts corner was headed clear from the penalty box as Scott positioned himself to volley it with his left foot back over everyone’s head and into the top left corner. An absolutely stunning strike and stunning goal. 2-4. 32 minutes played.

2 minutes later Jack Organ set up Stuart to make it 2-5.  Whyteleafe to their credit never gave up and created some chances of their own. But our defence was on top as Scott had strengthened it at right back. David was once again playing well.

The final goal came in 2nd half injury time. Richards cracking strike had goal written all over it. The keeper palmed it onto the post and it rang back along the goal line. Jack O capped a fabulous personal performance tapping it in. 2-6, as we remain top of the league.

MoM nominations were given to Ollie, Jack O, Frank but David was piped by JJ. who didn’t assist or score but worked his socks off all over the pitch closing Whyteleafe down and stopping them play. A BIG performance Little Man!!
