Old
Coulsdon Colts have been working hard to try and establish girls
football within its set-up. We were finally rewarded when history
was made when a mixed age friendly was played on Monday 3rd
May 2004 at our home ground at Toldene. The match was against
an established under 14 side from Croydon.
The match was played in atrocious conditions with rain beating
down throughout, but this did not dampen the girls enthusiasm.
In front of a crowd of nearly 100 people they displayed skills
that would have graced any cup final at Wembley (A building
site!).
Old Coulsdon girls thought all their hard work had paid off
when Gemma Cooper scored in the first few minutes. From then
on Croydon started to dominate the game and despite a well taken
penalty by Sam Hackshaw and a superb hat-trick by Zoe Warne
Croydon finished eventual winners 7-5.
The girls thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and the only problem
now is keeping them out of the pub where they can stand at the
end of the bar and discuss the ‘if only’s’
with the boys!
Our thanks to Croydon for their support and the friendly
but competitive way the game was played. We are hoping to
play Croydon again on Sunday 6th June (provisional) again
at our home ground at Toldene (watch this space for details).
