A brief history of the club
By founder Keith Harris

Our club was formed in 1979 with just one team in the under eleven age group using the small pitch in Grange Park as a home ground.
Our very first squad included, Mark Jennings, Jason Clark, Mark Canfield, Kirk Handley, Garry Evans, Paul Booth, David Tennant, Mark Harris, Mathew Coppack, John Beveridge, Jonathon McCarthy and Jamie Given.
Although there were subscriptions it was the generosity of the parents who chipped in to provide funds to buy kit and equipment that enabled us to start the club.     Our first Chairman was Mike Tennant.
Additional teams were added as time went on and we started to use a pitch and small changing rooms in Tollers Lane formerly used by Toldene School.
The local authority later required the land to build dwellings for old people and offered the club use of the pitches used by Purley Boy's High School adjacent to the Toldene pitch and provided new changing rooms which we still use.

In 1990 the club achieved charitable status because of its commitment to young people over the previous eleven years and at the same time received a sizeable donation from one of our trustees the late Sam Walton.
This donation gave us the confidence to negotiate a 30 year lease on our ground and sufficient funds to extend the car park and buy the shell of our clubhouse.     We also needed to re-model the interior of the changing rooms when large areas of the floor collapsed.     Much of this work was carried out by a dedicated group of individuals namely, Phil Janes, Ian Martin, Dave Evans, Graham Garfield and Keith Harris who worked for many evenings and consumed many beers, to put the place to rights.
The clubhouse was fitted out in the same way with the original crew supplemented by a variety of helpers.

In more recent times we have received substantial financial help from Professional Windows (Tony Longworth) and Keith Harris Carpets & Flooring (Margaret, Andrew and Keith Harris).
Because of our charitable status we are able to recover money from the Inland Revenue providing those who pay the money agree to it being classed as gift aid. Every parent paying U.K. tax of any kind can sign a declaration to enable the club recover much needed income.
Twenty five years is a long time for any organisation to survive, with the same energy needed to start the club, still evident in the year 2005.
If the values and involvement we have enjoyed during the past can be maintained, there is no reason why we shouldn't be around in 2030 and beyond.
