League:  Colts 6 v Horley Town 2

Colts go to Town on Horley !

After an even couple of minutes at the start of this game Old Coulsdon began to get into gear with some neat one touch football. As early as the 5th minute Jack A-B should have open the scoring, after the ball was delivered to him by Stuart Lee. Playing 4-3-3 this week meant plenty of chances would be on offer and this was proving to be the case. However the break through didn’t come until the 10th minute. Richard provided the through ball for Stuart to run clear and slide it past the keeper. 1 nil and the boys were on their way to a 14th consecutive victory.

Scott and Jack O were industrious in midfield sniffing out any chance of a Horley attack. David replaced JJ at left back with Remy, Ollie and George completing the quartet. It was Remy who provided the assist for our second goal after one of his charging runs from the back, through the midfield before a telling ball to Stuart, who then rounded the advancing keeper. 2-0 right on the stroke of half –time.

The second half began with a Horley penalty inside 60 seconds.  Michael penalised for pulling a shirt. The ref ordered the successful first kick to be taken again for encroachment, only to see Rhys brilliantly turn the second attempt round the post for a corner. The Colts huffed and puffed for a few minutes before James beat 2 defenders and crossed it for Stuart to complete his hat-trick .3 nil. 37 minutes played.

The Colts were now playing their best football of the game. Nathan found Stuart on the 43-minute mark, with another on the ground through ball. 4 nil.  Horley then gave themselves a glimpse of a chance when they scored after we failed to clear the ball from a corner. 4-1. 50 minutes played.

The game had really opened up at this point; it was end-to-end now with both teams going for it. Old Coulsdon struck next when Nathan finished off a cross after James had cut in from the left. 5-1 and 55 minutes on the clock.  Nathan, James and Stuart were all combining well today as they all unselfishly looked to past first and shoot second.

James made it 6-1 from a Stuart pass on 58 minutes before Horley had the last word with a wonder strike from the edge of the box that flew into the top corner. 6-2 as the final whistle sounded. A comfortable victory, without really reaching top gear.

M.o.M wise, David, Ollie, James, Rhys, Nathan and Stuart were all nominated but Scott was the clear winner today.
