Superb Colts performance ends Shock Cup exit…
In front of a massive crowd the Colts boys put on a real show today. We were by far the better team. We out played Oxted, out fought them and in fact, we “out classed” them but football can be cruel as we didn’t deserve to lose today.
Playing 4-3-3 as usual we really took the game to Oxted from the first whistle. We were quicker to the ball and competed for everything today. Nathan carried on from last week, Jack A-B was a real threat down the right and Stuart was on his toes as well. But when you are on top of possession and chances you need to score. 10 minutes into the game Oxted finally got a touch of the ball down our right flank. We had three chances to make a meaningful tackle, didn’t, and it ended in a goal. 1-0. We responded again with some lovely give and go football, it really was a joy to watch as they boys were turning on the style.
Then against the run of play once again, Oxted broke away and made it 2-0 on the 14 minute mark. The home supporters were stunned to say the least they couldn’t believe their luck! But back came the Colts, Scott was tigerish in the tackle today on the left and Richard was spraying the ball around from the right. But the Man of the match was Jack Organ today and I don’t use the word “man” lightly either. He covered every inch of the pitch, he won tackles and then had the maturity not just to punt it but actually use his footballing brain and make some telling passes. He was fantastic. It was from one of these passes he picked out Jack A-B who in turn laid it into the path of Nathan who simply smashed it into the top corner.2-1, 25 minutes played and game on!
Remy and his defence of Ollie, JJ and George then David played a little deeper today and it worked. They rarely got turned towards their own goal this week and were unlucky to be punished for the 3 times they failed to clear their lines. Having run his socks off again, the coaches made a substitution that got us back on level terms. Nathan came off for James who was sent clean through by Stuart almost immediately. James did not need a second invitation to shot. 2-2. 35 minutes played. Brilliant
It was now all one-way traffic as the Colts took the game to their opponents from the “B” division. Jack Organ continued to pull all the strings. Jack A-B, James and Stuart all had chances to score but when Scott’s goal bound shot was cleared off the line we were beginning to wonder if it was going to be our day. Oxted’s kick and chase tactics paid off when they literally stole the winner in the 51st minute. JJ was sacrificed for Nathan as we went 3 at the back. But it wasn’t to be today, as the final whistle went, as did our chance of a Cup final position.
MoM nominations included Scott, James, Remy and an improved Jack A-B but the top award went to Jack Organ who was magnificent today.
