Police on the lookout after Edenbridge steal the points!
This was just one of “those” games. A penalty miss, an own goal and a bucket load of chances but the record books will only show an Edenbridge 1 nil win.
The Colts made a positive enough start to the game with James constantly putting the Edenbridge back four under pressure with his mazy runs down the left. It was from one of these runs that a clumsy challenge came in and The Colts were awarded a penalty in the 3rd minute. Jack Avery-Bury had the confidence to take it, as remarkably he was still looking of his first goal of the season. The keeper chose right and saved it.
The defence were rarely troubled today but the back 8 of Edenbridge came to spoil our tactics and hustle us in the midfield and it worked. They usually play with a bit more of a positive nature but today was long ball football, as they looked to “smash and grab” a goal which is exactly what happened. A rare forward move produced a cross that Remy caught on his head; it looped up and over Rhys and just crept into the net. Amazingly Edenbridge were 1 up. 17 minutes played.
The second half saw several changes to tactics and personnel as the Colts coaches and players went in search of an equaliser. James, Stuart, Jack A-B and Nathan all had great chances but all went wide with their shots. Still the pressure came as Remy was pushed into midfield and we played 3 at the back. The defence were redundant. The midfield was pushing forward. It was all one-way traffic but Edenbridge battled harder than us for each 50-50 ball, they were quicker to the loose balls and they rode their luck, big style.
On a sticky pitch the lack of physical presence within our team showed this week. Some times you have to scrap for wins and show more aggression when tackling for the ball. This was one of those occasions. Back to winnings ways next week I am sure.
MoM nominations included Jack O, Richard, Jack A-B, Frank, Jonathon, James but Scott was the winner.
