League:  Netherne 1 v Colts 2

Colts end Netherne 100% record in style

This top of the table clash lived up to it’s promise as the boys put in an all round solid display to leap frog today’s opponents and at the same time, inflict Netherne’s first league defeat of the season. Smashing.

Both teams started brightly enough but as the play settled down we could see Netherne were defending with a very high line and we liked that. The Colts defence should take a lot of the credit today as George then David, JJ then Michael, Ollie and Remy were tremendous with the solid Rhys behind them of course.

Colts came closest to opening the scoring as a sweeping move down the left ended with Jack A-B hitting the far post with his shot. Netherne then created a great chance with Remy some how clearing the ball off the line as the forward smashed it goal bound. It was end-to-end stuff with the game only 12 minutes old.

Netherne took the lead on 22 minutes as the midfield failed to clear the ball but it was against the run of play it must be said. Within 2 minutes we were back on level terms. Remy took the free-kick down the left flank, James cut it back and passed to Richard who scored his first goal of the season with a neat flick up and over the keeper. 1-1. 24 minutes played.

Shortly after half-time Frank was introduced to liven up the midfield, which he certainly did. The Colts still had the greater of the play with Netherne chasing shadows sometimes. The three forwards bravely tried to create chances and finally a neat 1-2 came off as Jack A-B fed Stuart who coolly rounded the keeper and drilled it home. 1-2 and 44 minutes played.

The Colts then defended very well as Netherne threw everything at us but we stood firm and rightly won the game. Superb.

MoM nominations included Frank, Richard, James but Remy was pipped by Ollie to be this week’s winner.
