League:  Colts 1 v Balham 4

Spirited display not enough to win.

Today was always going to be tough but for long periods we were gave as good as we got. The score line was somewhat flattering in the end as we found ourselves chasing the came, something we have done for three weeks now.

The Colts made the brighter start with Stuart providing James with a wonderful opportunity to take the lead inside the first couple of minutes, but it was not to be. Then we fell behind after losing the ball easily in an advanced position. Something we did all day. Two passes later and it was in our goal, with help from the post. 0-1 (10).

The Colts continued to play well but without finding our best form. Balham doubled their lead with a well-worked goal down the right hand side. 0-2 (16). Against the run of play I must say. But we were getting a lesson in finishing that’s for sure. The passing today was short and not always to the feet of a player in yellow.

JJ, Jack and Scott then started winning the headers and the lose balls which gave all the team a left. Jack then started the move that lead to our goal. Feeding Stuart who released James to beat the keeper from close range. 1-2 (23)

The Colts boys then got the bit between their teeth and really upped the tempo. Remy and Ollie were defending stoutly, the midfield were doing their best to make the passing accurate and effective. We had several chances to equalise before have time but it just wasn’t happening today. HALF TIME.

The second half started as the first ended, with the Colts on top. Nathan was pushed up front as we went in search of a quick goal. We had the possession, the players, the movement but we just couldn’t stick the ball in the back of the net. James, Nathan and Stuart all had chances to be heroes. Maybe next week lads!

Meantime as we committed more men forward Rhys was doing his part by keeping us in the game with some fine goal keeping. We were doing everything right but when you are on top you have to score to make it count. We did everything but this today.

Balham scored two late goals to make the score flattering in the (62) and (68) minutes.

11.2.07 Key learning point: OUR GAME IS BASED UPON PASSING AND MOVING THE BALL ON THE GROUND TO EACH OTHER, THAT’S WHAT WE DO BEST, WE NEED TO DO MORE OF IT THAT’S ALL.

M.O.M nominations were for Stuart, Ollie, Ben, James but Remy was just pipped by the returning JJ.
