League:  Colts 4 v Coney Hall 1

Colts find form as squad stretched to the limits this week.

David pulled the keepers shirt on this week and did fantastically well. Leon moved to left back. Ben moved up into midfield. Scott dropped to centre back and Stuart played in centre midfield, such is the versatility of our squad. Then we got back to some pass and move footy!

We made a bright start and could have gone ahead earlier in the game than we did but when Nathan screamed across the penalty box and out muscled the last defender with his power and pace, we knew the opening goal was coming. Nathan then composed himself and squared the ball for James to simply tap it over the lime. A wonderful piece of football from the two forwards. 1-0 (11)

Coney rarely had the ball as Ben, Jack, Stuart and JJ were dominating the midfield. It was surprising that the second goal took so long in coming. Stuart won the ball deep in his own half and played a great pass to Nathan who flicked it deliberately into the path of James for him to finish with confidence. 2-0 (30) and we were rockin’. Remy and George were covering very well and protecting David with some great blocks. HALF TIME.

Playing up hill in the first half did seem to take it’s toll a bit, as the first fifteen minutes of the second period was our quietest. David made some great saves and Remy some last ditch tackles but it was Stuart who was pulling all the strings today from midfield. It was therefore fitting he was on hand to finish at the near post after James skinned two defenders with his pace down the left. 3-0 (58).

The Ref then showed us a bit of ball control too!

Stuart then turned provider for James with a delightful through ball, James rounded the keeper and completed his hat trick. 4-0 (65). Coney then scored a consolation goal deep into injury time as the tired legs began to slow down. 4-1 was a fair result as we got back to some pass and move attacking football this week. Well done to all the lads, that’s more like it.

25.2.07 Key learning point: WE WENT  BACK TO BACICS THIS WEEK AND IT WORKED AND REMEMBER TO TRAIN LIKE YOU PLAY.

M.O.M nominations were for Ben, Leon, David, Remy, JJ and James but Stuart was all over the pitch today and deservedly takes the trophy home to shine!
