League:  Junior Sports 1 v Colts 2

100% start to the season continues

Following last week’s classic cup-tie, it was back to the bread and butter of the League today. The conditions were awful, wind, rain, more wind and even more rain!

The Colts started the match playing up hill straight into the wind and to good effect early on. Ben was pushing down the left and is giving the Colts a more attacking look to their defence this season. Remy and Ollie were very solid in the middle and were only troubled on the odd occasion with a long ball. George had a great game at right back too with his no nonsense clearing up.

Junior Sports offered little as the Colts just contained during the first half. In fact the closest either team came to scoring was on 33 minutes where the lively James Bell hit the post with a quick turn and shot. Scott was working very hard in the middle to break things up and try and get the Colts flowing football moving again. Half time 0-0

Leon and David were introduced to freshen things up a little and it was from the tightest of angles that Leon got his shot in and opened up his account with the Colts after 46 minutes. 1-0. Nathan on for JJ added a third dimension to our attack as Junior had trouble picking him up. It was just a matter of time before goal number 2 arrived.

Jack was working hard and it was from a neat bit of football with Scott that the Colts were able to double their lead. A simple bit of two-touch and a neat pass found James who unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard right foot shot high into the top corner of the goal. 2-0 (62). Fantastic strike from the inform forward.

Rhys then had his busiest patch of the game when he was asked to stop several long balls, played forward for Junior players to chase onto. Easy for our quality keeper.

Remy then had the chance to finish the game off with a penalty in the 69th minutes after Stuart was tripped dribbling into the box. The keeper guessed right and made a comfortable save. The home team then got a consolation goal after a massive goal month scramble in the 70th minute. Final score 1-2 which was closer than the game in reality.

1.10.06 Key learning point: Play patiently and the goals will come.

M.O.M nominations were for Ollie, James, Ben, George and Scott but Leon’s first goal for the club swung the vote in his favour.
