League:  Colts 2 v Waterloo 3

Colts surrender at the battle of Waterloo…

The Colts couldn’t manage a repeat of the previous weeks batting cup performance and also surrendered a two-goal lead.

The Colts started well enough as we took the lead in the 7th minute. Nathan showed good strength by beating the Waterloo left back and finding James with a lovely pass. James then did the rest. Nathan then turned goal scorer after Stuart found him with another great through ball. 2 nil. 12 minutes played and things were looking pretty good up to now.

Waterloo then stepped up a gear and got back into the game on the 22-minute mark. A Waterloo player was allowed far too much time to control the ball, look up and make a good pass, as the Colts lads just stood off him.2-1. Two minutes later, a Waterloo midfielder was allowed to run past several admiring Colts players without a single challenge and get a shot in, which trickled over the line under Rhys’s body. 2-2 which is how it stayed up to half time.

Waterloo started the stronger again in the second half. We allowed them too much time on the ball and we failed to make winning tackles. Their midfield was on top now, as we couldn’t get the ball to create any chances. We tried 4-4-2 to try and stem the number of attacks but to no avail. Waterloo scored the winner midway through the second half as we offered little resistance.

JJ and Scott made several last gasp tackles to keep the game tight but our lack of physical strength and competitiveness cost us the match today. Fortunately there is also another game.

MoM: Jack A-B, Nathan, Stuart got a vote, Scott was close but JJ won it.
